Sean “Shiz” R is a West Philadelphia–bred multidisciplinary artist, cultural organizer, and creative entrepreneur whose work spans visual art, fashion, community programming, and cultural development. As the founding artist behind Sickwise, Sean has built a creative platform that blends street-inspired artistry with professional cultural programming, positioning him as an emerging leader within Philadelphia’s arts and culture sector.

Sean’s work and community impact have earned him notable recognition, including a Citation Award from the City of Philadelphia Council for his contributions to arts and community engagement, as well as the Michael Hinson Award from Philly Black Pride, recognizing his commitment to uplifting culture, creativity, and community visibility within Philadelphia.

A multidisciplinary creative, Sean’s talents include mixed-media artistry, painting, hand-crafted design, fashion and textile design, styling and wardrobe production, makeup and grooming for film, digital marketing, creative directing, and music performance. His work reflects a fusion of urban culture, street aesthetics, and contemporary art practices.

After briefly studying Design and Art History at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, Sean founded Sickwise in 2011, originally as a creative brand and design house. His early career included work in wardrobe and custom design for film productions, later expanding into makeup artistry and special effects work. Through these opportunities he assisted on sets and productions working alongside actors, designers, and media personalities across multiple entertainment and fashion environments.

Sean’s fashion and styling background eventually led him to collaborations connected to New York Fashion Week, where he assisted with runway productions and designer showcases before later becoming a Fashion Week partner in 2018. In Fall 2023, Sean presented his own fashion brand NOIREM during New York Fashion Week, marking a major milestone as one of the few emerging designers from Philadelphia featured on Fashion Week Online’s NYFW schedule.

Under the Sickwise umbrella, Sean has developed several interconnected creative platforms and initiatives:

• NOIREM — an urban creative design label focused on fashion design, textile experimentation, and digital art.
• The Art Walk of Philadelphia (formerly The U-City Art Walk) — a public creative marketplace and cultural event platform that supports artists, small businesses, and independent creatives throughout Philadelphia.
• The U-City Arts Foundation — a community-focused initiative dedicated to artist support, cultural programming, and neighborhood engagement.
• Kidz First Project — a nonprofit creative initiative centered on community enrichment and youth engagement.

Through The Art Walk of Philadelphia, Sean has helped cultivate a growing ecosystem that connects artists, makers, and small businesses with the public through recurring markets, cultural programming, and neighborhood activations. What began as a grassroots initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a recognized creative platform supporting Philadelphia’s independent art economy. Sean’s creative work and community engagement have been featured across multiple media outlets and productions, including BET Networks, Viacom, 6ABC Action News, MTV, PBS, and VH1, as well as publications such as JET Magazine and The Philadelphia Daily News. Today, Sean continues to lead Sickwise as both a creative house studio and cultural platform—building bridges between art, fashion, community engagement, and cultural development across Philadelphia, the greater tri-state region and other cities.
